Britain’s Financial Times are hosting an auction of pictures taken by some of the world’s most celebrated photographers with money raised from the auction going to the Global Fund for Children as part of their seasonal appeal.
To be auctioned by Sotheby’s Adrian Biddell on the 15th of November in London, the auction features works kindly donated by Cecil Beaton Studio Archive, Jane Bown, Stuart Franklin, Chris Smith, David Burnett and many more.
Highlights include lot 14, a hand printed silver gelatin print from Cecil Beaton’s original negative depicting Lucian Freud, Clarissa Churchill (Lady Avon) Stanislas and Grace Radziwill in Wiltshire. Number one from an edition of 20, the 20 x 24 inch mounted and framed photo is studio stamped and dated July 2012 on the reverse.
Lot 6 is a print of Stuart Franklin’s iconic ‘Tiananmen Square Tank Man’ from 1989. Measuring 20 x 16 inches, the silver gelatin print, made at Picto in Paris, comes signed, mounted and framed.
Also worth a look is lot 05, Jonathan Knowles ‘Arboretum’ 2012, which is a spectacular image measuring 38 x 18 inches. Limited edition 1 of 5, the signed image is printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo using archival pigment and comes mounted and framed.
One of the most spectacular photos is an image by Mark Blinch of tightrope walker Nik Wallenda walking the high wire from the U.S. side to the Canadian side over the Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The digital C-type measuring 19 x 13 inches comes mounted and framed.
