China Guardian Raid Art Colleges for New Talent – artmarketblog.com
After scouring Chinese art colleges for the very best works by emerging contemporary Chinese artist, Chinese auction giant China Guardian will hold a sale of College Era-2012 Excellent Artworks of Chinese Art Colleges on the 18th of June.
More than 500 arts and comprehensive colleges were visited and 20,000 works of art assessed. After primary and secondary rounds of judging, China Guardian selected 215 lots for the sale including oil paintings, Chinese paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs, mixed media works, sketches and watercolours.
The highlight of the sale is lot 5187, a mixed-media sculpture by Yang Chen titled “BLUE DREAM” with an estimate of RMB 20,000-30,000. An edition of 8, the sculpture is of a zebra and measures 66×20×37 cm. Also by Yang Chen is lot 5188, another sculpture titled “FANTASY NIGHT NO.2″ which is estimated to fetch RMB 40,000-50,000.
Also of interest is lot 5110, a spectacular painting by Shang Wen titled “SUCH AS THE LABOR OF SISYPHUS”. Measuring 300×190 cm, the painting is expected to fetch RMB 30,000-40,000 .
The top estimate of RMB 60,000-70,000 has been given to lot 5034, a beautiful realist painting by Zhang Fei titled “I AM STILL HERE NO.2″.
