Herb Williams in his studio

I have received lots of emails asking whether there will be a 2009 Next Star Artist competition so I thought it was about time to announce that YES, there will be a 2009 Next Star Artist Competition. After the success of the 2008 competition I couldn’t not run the competition again this year so if you didn’t get the chance to enter last year then 2009 could be your year !!! Due to my current work load the launch date for the 2009 competition will be in May as opposed to the March launch date of the 2008 competition.

The 2008 competition unearthed a true star artist in Herb Williams (http://www.herbwilliamsart.com) whose career has continued to take leaps and bounds since winning the first ever Next Star Artist competition. Williams’ work has received plenty of attention of late with tv appearances, newspaper articles and a spot in the Washington DC Obama Inauguration exhibition at MANIFESTHOPE:DC Gallery which was held during the inauguration in January. For those of you who are fans of the All American Rejects you might like to have a look at the cover of their latest album “When The World Comes Down” (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001H9JBF8). Look familiar?, it should, it’s a Herb Williams creation.

If you think you you have what it takes to follow in Herb Williams’ footsteps and become the 2009 Next Star Artist then start preparing your entry. There are also plenty of opportunities for art related companies to sponsor the 2009 competition and receive some significant art world exposure. Anyone interested in sponsoring the 2009 Next Star Artist competition can contact me via the contact form on my blog.

Entry details as well as the terms and conditions will be posted shortly so stay tuned for more exciting information regarding the 2009 Next Star Artist competition and keep an eye out for the new website !!

I am interested in entering your competition. I have always been an artist since first grade and throughout school. I received a Bachelor Of Fine Arts from The School of Art at Bradley University in Peoria IL. It was an excellent program especially for the very small studio classes 6 to 10 students. I was offered a Graduate assistantship from James Malenda in 1985. Although I was very honored with this offer I had to move back home to to help my dad take care of my wonderful mom who had just been diagnosed with malignant melanoma which is skin cancer and untreatable. through my moms strong battle it was my art work that got me through this time of watching my mom go through experimental treatments. She passed after her years of bravery and once again my artwork got me through were words wold not. I also was working with emotionally and physically abused children and using art work to help them heal their anger and pain. I was accepted into the Art Therapy program at The School of The Art Institute Of Chicago while I was taking care of my dad in 2001. I was so honored to be a part of this program but then I had to drop out due to my dad now being diagnosed with colon cancer. Again I used my artwork to get through his illness and death several years later. I then went back to work at the same facility that I worked with children after my family sickness leave of abscence. This time I was working with adults that had a mental illness diagnosed in the DSMIV. This is when I really saw the power of Artwork in reaching people who just so happen to have a chemical inballence in their brains . I just don’t love being an artist I have to be an artist as creating is such a part of me just as breathing is. I have never shown my work as a professional in any gallery. The only shows were undergraduate shows at Bradley and of course my BFA show. Please I ask you to help me get my artwork out there for people to see and be shown in galleries as it has come to the point that I want to be discovered for my work. Thank You so very much, Steven Kriekel
