Manzoni sold (literally) his own shit in industrial sealed cans to the Modern in NY, the Pompidou in Paris, the Tate and many other “prestigious” museums …for $90,000 to $140,000 a ‘shit’. This is just another piece of shit ….why do I think so, well, I have written and published 2 books as to how the art world has lost its soul in many cases exemplified in the latest work by Finch….Your mama is right, “here the Emperor is naked”. A lot of words are needed to come to the rescue of a vacant art, and vacant art, or ‘bad art’, is simply vacant of feeling…What do you ‘feel’ when you see nothing????

I believe that if everyone liked every work of art and all artists conformed to the classical conventions of fine art then art would be a bit boring. Isn’t the art world more interesting thanks to artists like Finch??

Did he sit up all night dreaming this up, or sit up all night figuring out how to scam the public?
Not that this stuff hadn’t been done before. I remember the then dean of the Nova Scotia School of Art , Garry Neill Kennedy did black canvases back in the late seventies. I thought this lunacy (pun intended) had taken it’s course and art come back to a more ‘saner’ level. Funny thing is, it’s not that hard to understand, nor that hard to come up with something like that (and it hardly takes any time to do, so more time for partying!)…. I am with Tom Wolfe in ‘Painted Word’: “….Art made its final flight, climbed higher and higher in an ever-decreasing tighter-turning spiral until…it disappeared up its own fundamental aperture (my understanding of this polite phrase is: up it’s ass)…and came out the other side as Art Theory!…”
Anyway, enjoy your blog, but this one – your mother’s first impression was right!

I think that it is important to remember that there is more to art than a pretty picture. I really like your work Rich but I like it for a different reason than I like Spencer Finch’s work.
