Limited Edition Print Market Update – artmarketblog.com
Our good friends at the Humble Arts Foundation have just launched their new website which I have to say is absolutely fantastic. To kick off their new site, Humble Arts Foundation have released a new photo edition by Brooklyn based photographer Amy Elkins. The work, titled Justin, Brooklyn, NY, is from Elkin’s Wallflower series which according to the artist’s website “cultural grounds underlying gender, opting to focus on the beauty, sensitivity and vulnerabilities found in a sex that has long been held to masculine expectations and stereotypes”. As well as being a highly successful photographer whose work has been published in PDN, American Photo, Popular Photo, EyeMazing, Dear Dave and NY Art – Elkins has also co-founded an online showcase for female photographers called Women in Photography (http://www.wipnyc.org/). Being a very small edition of 5 signed and numbered photos, Justin, Brooklyn, NY is a great investment that is sure to sell out very quickly. To purchase this magnificent work which is selling for $500 go here: http://humbleartsfoundation.org/editions/latest.html
In a previous post I wrote about the new limited edition photographs launched to celebrate Blindspot’s 15th anniversary which can be found here:

In addition to those photographs available when I last wrote about the anniversary editions, a work by Tim Davis has now become available titled “Church Flowers 2, 2007″ and it is truly cracking work indeed. I particularly like the this work (and other works of Davis’s) because it displays the intricacies and detail often found in the objects and physical environment of everyday life that one would not normally have the time or inclination to stop and admire. “Church Flowers 2, 2007″ is an edition of 15 and is available for $900 from the Blindspot website which you can find here:

Staying up to date with the trends relating to the demand and desirability of limited edition works of art can be a tricky thing to do especially considering the number of different editions being produced. Thanks to Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Editions sales, the task of identifying what’s hot in limited edition prints is made a bit easier. To see the results of the sale go here:

According to a press release from Christie’s, “Prints reflect our contemporary society in a unique way. The print embodies the aspirations of our culture, accessibility, inclusively, duplication, the free market and fashion. In the last fifty years printmaking has moved from the fringes of art production, to become a standard part of most artistic careers. Not only do the best artists of our time make prints, some of the best artworks of our time are prints.” Murray Macaulay, Specialist and Head of Prints, South Kensington.
