Art Market Blog – Affordable and Collectible Art No. 7

paikxmas1 Art Market Blog Affordable and Collectible Art No. 7Nam June Paik is one of the most important figures in modern art primarily because of his role as the pioneer of the use of video and television as art. During the mid 60′s when people were still coming to terms with the technological advances that resulted in the creation of video recorders and computers, Paik had already begun experimenting with the use of this technology as an artistic medium. The concepts and theories that Paik expressed in his work were always way ahead of their time and to some degree, still are.

Nam June Paik will always be remembered as the pioneer of an artistic medium which is a title that very few artists can claim, and can only add to the value of his work. Having died in 2006, the value of Paik’s work is on the increase and with the renewed interest in video art, should continue to experience an increase in value in the long term. It is often not until an artist dies that the true value of an artists contributions are fully realised which seems to have been the case with Paik.

The medium of video art and video artists such as Nam June Paik have yet to be given the level of recognition and value that they deserve, which is unfortunate for the artist, but presents an opportunity for the investor. Although most of Paik’s video works are selling for well into the six figure bracket, his limited edition prints are still very affordable and represent great value for money. This particular work is from the “Triangle, Trinity” series and is silkscreen and offset print with collage on rag paper measuring 40x50cm. The edition is a very small edition of 60 and each print is signed and numbered.

The retail value of this print is 900 euros (approx US$1300) but Editions Schellman are offering one of these prints for only 450 euros (approx US$650) but there is only one available at this price so you had better get in quick. If you are interested in this artwork then go here

Opportunities to purchase works by such major figures in art history rarely come about, especially at such an affordable price, so if someone doesn’t buy this print soon, I will!!
